Introduction:

The following news articles, originally published in December, 1942 in The Winnipeg Tribune, reveal more details about what was going on at the time in other fronts as well as upon the north shore of Africa. Although the war was far from over it has been said that - for the Allied forces - successful steps in the Mediterranean were at least the end of the beginning (of the long war).

Two hundred to three hundred Canadians in RCNVR (volunteers for Combined Operations) were sprinkled among the Royal Navy crews that manned landing crafts in operation beginning November 8th. Some were mentioned by name in previous articles, most laboured without mention.

That being said, many news articles, Navy memoirs, photographs, audio records and videos (several items archived on this website/blog) reveal their presence, efforts and experiences. The 13 entries I have posted are perhaps only the tip of the iceberg.

Happy Hunting, I say.

More information about Operation Torch can be found by studying the photographs and accompanying captions that are stored in a large, magnificent archive at the Imperial War Museum, England.

I have collected several significant photographs related to the invasion of North Africa and one can link to some of them here - Photographs: North Africa, Nov. 1942 (5 Parts)
