Dieppe: In Memory of Joseph McKenna, RCNVR. Parts 1-3

About the Role of Canadians in Combined Operations

Introduction:

Joe McKenna volunteered for the RCNVR at Charlottetown Division, PEI, in the spring of 1941. His first action, after training aboard landing crafts in southern England (at HMS Northney III on Hayling Island) and north-west Scotland (at HMS Quebec, just south of Inveraray on Loch Fyne) was during the Dieppe Raid on August 19, 1942. It would be Joe McKenna's last action.

With the help of Joe's military records, and a Canadian sailor's written account of his experience at Dieppe, and my father's memoirs, I have assembled a three-part series in memory of Joe McKenna, of RCNVR and Combined Operations.
