Lloyd Evans - My Naval Chronicle
Memories of a World War II Landing Craft Volunteer
This book is an account of Mr. Evan's experiences with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve and Combined Operations organization during WW2, from initial training in Montreal and Halifax, to his Combined Ops duties related to raids (e.g., Dieppe) and Allied invasions in North Africa, Sicily and Italy, and then to later duties after his return to Canadian soil in 1944.
A busy man - Table of Contents
The book was printed by a member of Mr. Evan's family a few years after Geoff Slee, author of the Forward and creator and driving force behind the significant website Combined Operations Command, compiled emails from Mr. Evans into a studied chronicle and posted it in full on his website. At this time the hard cover book is only available to family and friends, and if it is ever produced for broader consumption details will be posted on this site.
In the Forward Geoff Slee writes: A comprehensive. often humorous, account of life in the UK, Africa, and Europe from the perspective of a young Canadian volunteer employed in World War II Landing craft duties... always present was the next unknown mission with moments of great danger.
Mr. Evans carried a camera on many occasions and his photographs are a clear, authentic look at conditions of the time. A few appear on this page.
