Introduction:

The sense of tragedy connected to the raid of August 19, 1942, still lives on even though all of those soldiers and sailors and pilots associated with it are now deceased. It is surviving family members, history teachers, journalists, documentarians, etc., who bear the torch now and will occasionally, or often, remember its meaning or lack thereof.
